SECTION: BIOLOGY

MODULE: 12

Part A: Units

1. Ecology (1)

a. Meaning of ecology

b. Factors in an ecosystem

c. Interdependence of organisms

d. Food chains and food webs

2. Pollution

a. Types of pollution

b. Causes of pollution

c. Effects of pollution

d. Control measures

Part B: Project

Observe a local ecosystem and identify pollution issues.

Project Title: Ecosystem and Pollution Study

Objective: Apply ecology concepts to a local environment and analyze pollution.

Project Instructions:

  1. 1. Choose a local ecosystem (field, garden, river, or roadside).
  2. 2. Identify biotic and abiotic factors present.
  3. 3. Draw a simple food chain or food web.
  4. 4. Identify one type of pollution and its causes and effects.
  5. 5. Suggest one control measure and consult your coach where necessary.

Evidence to Submit:

  • • Ecosystem observation notes.
  • • Food chain or web diagram.
  • • Pollution analysis and control measure.

Submission

Accepted: PDF, JPG, PNG, DOC, DOCX (max 8MB).

Part C: Training Others

Guide a peer on ecology and pollution.

Guidance:

  • • Explain ecosystem factors with local examples.
  • • Build a simple food chain together.
  • • Discuss a local pollution source and control.

Reflection:

  • • What did the learner understand well?
  • • What needed more explanation?
  • • What support do you need from your coach?

Submission

Accepted: PDF, JPG, PNG, DOC, DOCX (max 8MB).

Part D: Assessment

Competency Levels:

1 = Expectations not met

2 = Partially met

3 = Satisfactorily met

4 = Excellently met

Coach assessment: Learner completes the self-assessment using the 1-4 scale. The coach prepares a short quiz or conversation (outside the system if needed) and assigns the coach score.

Self-assessment:

  • • Ecology concepts and factors:
  • • Food chains and interdependence:
  • • Pollution causes and control:
