Project Title: Local Area Observation and Simple Mapping

Objective: Apply basic geography skills through observing the local environment and creating a simple map.

Project Instructions:

  1. 1. Choose a small local area (home compound, school, market, or nearby street).
  2. 2. Observe key physical and human features (buildings, roads, vegetation, water sources).
  3. 3. Sketch a simple map showing these features with correct symbols.
  4. 4. Add a title, key/legend, and a simple compass direction (N, S, E, W).
  5. 5. Note the position of the Earth in relation to the Sun and how day and night occur.
  6. 6. Consult your coach where necessary.

Evidence to Submit:

  • • A labeled sketch map with a key and direction.
  • • Short notes on physical and human features observed.
  • • Brief explanation of Earth-Sun relationship.

Part C: Training Others

Teach geography basics.

Guidance:

  • • Explain what geography studies and its importance.
  • • Show how to identify physical vs human features.
  • • Demonstrate how to draw a basic sketch map with a key.

Activities:

  1. 1. Identify five local features and classify them.
  2. 2. Guide the learner to draw a simple map and add a key.
  3. 3. Discuss the Earth and Solar System basics.
